Polestar Begins Production in the United States to Circumvent Tariffs
Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Sidesteps Import Fees
Polestar, a Swedish electric-vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has initiated production of its Polestar 3 sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the United States. This strategic move aims to sidestep the nation's import tariffs.
Polestar, majority-owned by China's Geely, previously manufactured its vehicles in China and exported them to global markets. However, facing hefty tariffs, the company has chosen to establish a production facility in South Carolina.
The decision to produce the Polestar 3 in the United States aligns with the company's long-term strategy. Polestar plans to expand its operations in South Korea next year to develop its Polestar 4 model.
By producing its flagship Polestar 3 SUV in the United States, Polestar can reduce its exposure to import tariffs and maintain competitive pricing in the North American market.
